We are Martin and Jay Horgan, and we live in Staffordshire with our Dobermanns, German Pinschers, English Pointers and Burmese cat.

We have bred, shown, trained and worked Dobermanns for many years at the highest level, achieving the Top UK Breeder title, breeding the UK bitch breed record holder, the highest qualified UK Schutzhund Dobermann, and the most titled litter in UK breed history.

In 2009 we imported our first German Pinscher, the black female Pandora from the world famous Ceriinan kennels of Anja Nikkonen, followed by the red male Quiero.

Prior to importing these dogs, there had been no UK litters for three years and the breed had suffered from some years of decline. We have had success with our litters and new imports who are now enjoying success in the showring, and we are pleased to have helped new people come into this super breed.

I had been considering a smaller breed to run parallel with the Dobes for some years, but the right breed never really came along for me - I didn't want a toy breed, nor all the grooming which goes with many terrier breed. I liked the Schnauzer, but didn't want the stripping of the coat (Pinschers being the short coated version of the Medium Schnauzer).

Having always had an interest in Pinschers, I was browsing on the Dabney's website one day and was captivated by their Finnish import Clefell's Jaguar. Martin had shown the Swanwite Pinschers a couple of times to help out so I knew it might not be hard work to persuade him. German Pinschers are in the Working Group - the same day as Dobes, so it meant I could show on the same day.

I have been very fortunate to have been allowed to have my choice from two of Ceriinan's excellent litters, which culminated in the double World Winner titleswins for Quiero & Pandora wat the World Show Salzburg 2012 from 54 dogs.

Ceriinan Quiero won BOB two years running at Crufts 2011 & 2012, World Jnr Winner 2011, Amsterdam Winner 2011 and his last title - World Winner 2012.

The future of the Pinscher in the UK is helped by the new puppies from our two recent litters - the black Aritaur 'F' litter and the red Aritaur 'G' litter.

The Health of the German Pinscher is very good overall and their character is wonderful - although not for the idle owner who just wants a cute dog to walk in the park once a day!

Like Dobermanns, German Pinschers are not for everyone - they have a lot of attitude and not always recommended for a first time dog owner, but if you lead an active life, are looking for a medium sized breed with high energy, hugely protective, loving, loyal and devoted, you could be for the Pinscher!

The reason it is so difficult to find German Pinscher puppies is because there are very few German Pinscher breeders. We can hopefully increase numbers of German Pinscher puppies available to good homes for people who like a small/medum sized dog with a big character. You must be prepared to wait as there are so few UK breeders, but if you are patient we will be happy to help find you the right Pinscher.
